Hi, I’m Matias Harju, a music educator, musician and sound designer living in Helsinki, Finland.

I graduated from Sibelius Academy with M.Mus. in 2008. Since then I have taught music and sound engineering in Kallio Upper Secondary School of Performing Arts. Kallio has a special task for art education and receives students from all over the country. You’ll find some of the learning material for sound studies I’ve made (in Finnish) on my other site aaltomuoto.wordpress.com/aani.

In addition to teaching music I play keyboards and sometimes cello and theremin in several bands and projects.

Recently I have digged deeper into sound design and creative music making. Especially interactive 3D audio, sound installations and sound for screen are areas that I’m exploring.

During 2014–2015 I spent a year in Johannesburg, South Africa, with a colleague of mine to set up a radio skills training programme at Westbury Youth Centre. When we headed back to Finland we handed the programme over to the locals, and it has since evolved into a media production company and trainging programme facilitated by two of our ex-students.

In August 2017 I’m starting additional master’s studies at Aalto University Sound in New Media programme.

I’m always open for new projects and collaboration with interesting people. You can reach me atosoite.png
