I’m Matias Harju, a music educator, musician and sound designer living in Helsinki, Finland.
I graduated from Sibelius Academy with M.Mus. in 2008. Since then I have taught music and sound engineering in Kallio Upper Secondary School of Performing Arts. Kallio has a special task for art education and receives students from all over the country. You’ll find some of the learning material for sound studies I’ve made (in Finnish) on my other site aaltomuoto.wordpress.com/aani.
In addition to teaching music I play keyboards and sometimes cello and theremin in several bands and projects.
Recently I have digged deeper into the world of sound. Especially 3D audio and sound installations are areas that I’m exploring. In August 2017 I started at Aalto University Sound in New Media master’s programme to learn more, connect with inspiring people and experiment with new ideas and technologies.
During 2014–2015 I spent a year in Johannesburg, South Africa, with a colleague of mine to set up a radio skills training programme at Westbury Youth Centre. When we headed back to Finland we handed the programme over to the locals, and it has since evolved into a media production company and trainging programme facilitated by two of our ex-students.
I’m always open for new projects and collaboration with interesting people. You can reach me ator through the social media links shown on the sidebar.
